Join a racing musher in one of his training runs!
Sled dogs have been part of the arctic life for thousands of years as humans best friends and irreplaceable helpers. We as mushers hold up the heritage of a working huskies.
Wildland Trail guide Martin, is a long distance racing musher with 17 siberian huskies at home. It is a part of the training to be out there most of the time in the winter - this means 4-5 trainings a week. As the short training runs can be up to 50 km and the longest well over 100 km.
We offer you to join a regular long training run for 2 days and up to 150 km in the heart of the winter. Join the training and get to feel what would it be like to race with the dogs. As the long trainings are for practicing the race schedule and diciplines.
You will have an exclusive opportunity to get a really close look behind the scenes with the racing sled dogs. You get to drive a dog team of 6-7 Siberian huskies. Experience all the steps between starting at the kennel and back. You stay close to the musher at all times so do not have to worry about being out there alone.
Wildland Trail guide Martin trains for a 200 and a 350 km race this season. Find out the daily life of our kennel here:

Meet us in Kokträsk, Malå, or we will pick you up from Arvidsjaur, Skellefteå, Luleå airport (or another place in a 200 km radius of Kokträsk). You will get a basic briefing of driving a sled dog team and get help for preparing yourself for being out in the wild. We will be going through all the steps neccessary when going out for a training run. This includes a lot of things. After all the preparations we have a nice hot beverage and off we go! Ahead lies an experience you don't forget - 150 km of training run with the sled dogs. | We arrive back to the kennel about 24 h after we started. We are back after lunch and then its time for an after training procedures which includes massageing the dogs and unpacking the sleds. |
How will the training run go? | For what you need to be prepared of? |
Training run distance will be approx 150 km. This will be divided to 3 different stages. Between every stage we are going to have a 4 hour break. But remember half of the break time goes for taking care of the dogs. This includes feeding and preparing their sleeping places. | Be ready to be outside in cold temperatures for up to 24 hours. You will not get too much sleeping hours as most of the time its for the dogs. Ask yourself are you mentally and physically capable of standing on the sled for that long and facing the wind and cold? |
Please note! You are responsible of the dog team you are driving because you are the closest to them when something happens. |
Joining the training run takes place once in a month on December, January, February and March.
